Prof. Ragnar Norrby, Chairman of the IVI Board of Trustees, has had a distinguished career in infectious diseases in academia, clinical medicine and industry. With a Ph.D. in medicine from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, he has served as a professor at the University of Lund, Sweden for over 20 years. In May 2009 Norrby resigned after eight years as the Director General of the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control. He has been on the IVI Board since 2004 as one of five members representing the IVI's Signatories before beginning his term as Board Chairman in May 2006.

Dragutin Mate is a Slovenian diplomat and politician. He graduated at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana. In 1994 Mate became the main adviser for international cooperation in the Defense Minister's Office. After 1994, he switched to the diplomatic service and from 1996 to 2000, he served as the Slovenian military attaché in Bosnia and Herzegovina. After leaving the post as military attaché he resumed to work at the Ministry of Defense. During 2004 and 2008 he served as Minister of Interior in the centre-right government led by Janez Janša. Since November 2008 he is the chairman of ESRIF (European Security Research & Innovation Forum).

Dr Paul Weissenberg studied law at the Universities of Würzburg and Freiburg (Germany), followed by post-graduate studies in European law in Geneva (Switzerland) and by a PhD in European law at the University of Geneva. Dr Weissenberg started working for the European Commission in 1989 as Member of Cabinet of Dr Martin Bangemann, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for Industrial Policy. In 1996 he was appointed Head of Cabinet of Dr Martin Bangemann. From 2000 to 2005 he was Head of the Single Market Directorate responsible inter alia for automotive and pharmaceutical legislation. He was a Member of the Management Board of the European Medicines Agency (EMEA). Since January 2005 he has been in charge of the Directorate for Aerospace, GMES, Security and Defense and has been appointed Coordinator for Aerospace, GMES, Security and Defense within DG Enterprise and Industry.

Marco Malacarne is the Head of Unit "Security Research and Development" Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry European Commission, Brussels. As of January 2008, he is responsible for "Security Research and Development", part of the Seventh Framework Programme for European Community R&D. The Unit is also closely involved with the activities of the newly created "European Security Research and Innovation Forum". Previously, and as of early 2004, he was responsible for "Space Research and Development", with particular emphasis on Earth Observation and the development of GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security), in close cooperation with ESA.
